March 3rd Xl v Old Wilhads
Monday, May 30, 2010
It was almost a case of the master spin bowler
and his apprentice at The Avenue on Bank Holiday Monday, as the 3rd Xl went
down by two wickets in a friendly match to Ely based Old Wilhads.
Stuart Fox clean bowled all of his three
victims, as the visitors tottered in reply to the 3rd Xl's 160-8 off 40
overs. And not to be out done teenage leg-spinner Nathan Oliver picked up an
encouraging 3-29.
The pair took it in turns to bowl from the
pavilion end on a day when the sun did actually manage to shine.
After a blistering start, Old Wilhads began to lose wickets and slumped
from 58 without loss to 67-4. By that time Fox had worked his magic and then
handed over to his younger team-mate. In fairness to both spinners, the 3rd
Xl's downfall was failing to score enough runs.
Openers Pat Ringham and Nathan Foad made a
breezy start against the new ball and with 49 runs on the board after 11
overs looked set for a big score.
Foad was caught behind for 20 attempting to cut and Ringham went the same
a few overs later having top-scored with 32.
The run-rate dropped in the middle order, but Brett Tinnion (19) and Jake
Beart (16)started to push the total along before Andy Wright made a late 29
not out.

March 3rd Xl v Soham
Saturday, June
5, 2010 The 3rd Xl made it a hat-trick of Saturday wins
when they scraped through their first serious test of the season against
visitors Soham, to stay joint top of CCA Junior League Division 2A
With eight players 19 or under in the side they
did well to total 187-9 against a side who beat them so convincingly in the
corresponding fixture last season, in what was a promotion year for both teams.
But with the new ball swinging like Elvis the visitors leaked early runs
with their amazing amount of wides, which by the end of the game amounted to
37 runs.
March lost the early initiative in a game that see-sawed throughout and
only clawed their way back thanks to the middle order. Brett Tinnion played
very well for his 40 and James Shepherd hit a typical 42 off 28 deliveries. Jake Beart
also played his part and was undefeated on 33 at the end.
Six dropped catches saw Soham score more runs
than they should have done, with James Beresford taking 4-30 in the all out
total of 169. He had three overs remaining in his second spell and needed
just the two to capture the final two wickets in consecutive balls for victory.
Lewis Hilliard opened the bowling with him and produced a lively 2-42 stint,
with off-spinner Stuart Fox collecting 2-47.
