March 3rd Xl v Needingworth 1st Xl, Saturday, July 2, 2011
The 3rd Xl are in freefall and find themselves at the foot of
CCA Junior League Division 2A with half the season gone - their
latest 90-run defeat coming against previous bottom side
Needingworth.
The home side were inspired by two of their returning university
lads, who helped them to a massive 282-6 total. Dan Sherlock hit
a career best 134, having been dropped at slip in his 30s, and
Ben Carter added 47, as the pair compiled a 204 third wicket
stand.
Both players eventually fell to James
Beresford, who took a wicket with his first delivery in his two spells, to
finish with 3-42. Toby Nulty also bowled well for his 3-39, his last two
wickets sandwiched between a dropped catch.
Jon Kaberry top-scored with 43 in the 190 all out reply, but
with Sherlock and Carter a bit lively on a pitch of variable
bounce, three of the top five failed to score. Kaberry hit eight
boundaries, including a 'six' in his 40-ball stay at the crease,
with youngsters Nathan Oliver (26) and Nulty (23) batting well
in the middle or the order.
The surprise package came at the end when the last pair put on
40 runs - skipper Matt Hubbard scoring 32 at No10 and Stuart Fox 16 not out
at No11.
March 3rd Xl v Little Downham, Saturday, July 9, 2011
Two of the 'big guns' finally came to the party to end the 3rd
Xl's dismal run of four defeats in CCA Junior League Division 2A. Stuart Fox
returned his best figures of the campaign with a 6-30 haul and Nick Peck blasted
85 not out in the six wicket win at Little Downham.
Bottom of the table March were
excellent in the field, with off-spinner Fox the stand-out player, during the
home side's 160-9. He picked up
the wickets of both openers inside his first two overs, including the prized
scalp of Peter Baker, who hit a century at March earlier in the season.
Saturday's dismissal was a bit different as wicketkeeper Peck caught the ball
between his knees, as Baker trudged off for his side's top score of 55.
Skipper Matt Hubbard picked up 2-37, with left-arm
opening bowler James Beresford bowling really well without any luck
whatsoever.
Peck took centre stage
after tea when he teamed up with teenager Nathan Foad, as the two of them produced a match-winning
partnership of 117 for the third wicket. Peck hit 13 boundaries, two of which
whistled over the leg-side hedge, as the home team dropped six catches. Foad
went on to make an excellent 52,that came off just 62 balls and was out with
just three runs required. Following a further scare, Peck hit the winning
runs with seven balls to spare.

March 3rd Xl v Leverington, Saturday, July 23, 2011
It was all over before tea
as runaway CCA Junior League Division 2A leaders Leverington steamrollered
the 3rd Xl by eight wickets to add to their relegation woes.
Scott Welcher top scored
for March with 17 in the all out total of 55, which only lasted 28 overs.
The No.3 bat struck three boundaries on a day when the champions elect
bowled back of a length and let the wicket do the work.
When the two sides played in May it was a top of the
table clash, which Leverington won by one wicket with four balls to spare.
No so this time around, with teenagers Toby
Nulty and Jacob Gray picking up the two Leverington wickets to fall, as they
raced to a 61-2 victory off just 15 overs.
