Rob
Moden carried his bat for a hard-hit 92 at Kimbolton, as the 2nd Xl made it four
wins from five games in CCA Senior League Division 1.
The right-hander, along with fellow
opener David Haslegrave (44), put on 123 for the first wicket as the visitors won
by three wickets in reply to the home side's 203 all out.
Moden struck 13 boundaries, including
four 'sixes' during his innings, but could only watch as the early advantage was
thrown away - three wickets falling for just a single run.
With a run-a-ball required off the last
six overs, Moden found an ally in David Hodson, who smacked a quick 13 not out
to seal the 20 points.
The outcome could have been so
different if Kimbolton hadn't suddenly collapsed - losing seven wickets in as
many overs. At 168-3 after 34 overs, a big total was on the cards.
Stuart Mills, who had a ragged
first spell, ran in to take five wickets at an overall cost of 61. And with
off-spinner Richard Green picking up 3-32, March were back in business.
March 2nd Xl v Wisbech 3rd Xl
Saturday, June 5, 2011
Andy
Bryan headed up a strong 2nd Xl batting line-up with a timely half-century, as
they beat Wisbech 3rd Xl by 35 runs in the Fenland Trophy at Harecroft Road.
The opening batsman hit nine
boundaries in his 57 at
the top of the order with skipper Stephen Wallis unbeaten on 39 and Andy Wright
making 34. They put on 51 for the fifth wicket in the March total of 183-5.
With the weather turning
increasing inclement March were involved in a race to bowl
out Wisbech before the rain forced the players off, while
the home side continued their chase for victory.
While Wisbech opener Dan
Martell (63) was at the crease a home victory looked
possible, but after he was dismissed by Rob Moden, the March
bowlers completed the task and went on to complete their
first Trophy win of the season
The wickets were shared
by leg-spinner Nathan Oliver 3-24, Rob Moden 2-19, Toby
Nulty 2-25, while Andrew Wright, Sam Mason and Jacob Gray
all took one wicket each.
March 2nd Xl v Hardwick
Saturday, June 11, 2011
An
unbelievable batting display by second in the table Hardwick virtually gifted
the 2nd Xl a four wicket win to take them to the top of CCA Senior League Division 2.
The visitors were 26 without
loss after four overs, only to be bowled out for 113 in just 31 overs -
off-spinner Richard Green taking 4-19.
Hardwick set off in Twenty20 mode and
continued in the same vein even when wickets were tumbling. Callum Young made
the initial breakthrough on his way to 2-40, with Andy Wright taking 2-26.
The experience of Green and Stuart
Arnold (2-28) finally wore Hardwick down to their modest total.
But at 18-3 March themselves needed a
cool head and that came in the shape of Ben Pyle, whose 36 not out went a long
way to bagging top spot in the division. He came in at No6 and cracked five
boundaries, with wicketkeeper David Hodson smearing four big shots off just 13
balls for an unbeaten 22 in the 115-6 winning total.
