David Hodson's maiden league half-century helped the 2nd Xl
bounce back from the previous week's CCA Senior League Division 1
defeat, when they crushed Bluntisham by 137 runs at The Avenue
on Saturday.
The batsman-wicketkeeper hit 56 off 71 balls at the top of the order
- a knock that included seven boundaries.
Runs were made all the way down the order, with Ben Pyle making 38, James Harradine 36
and Josh Jackman 23 in the 217 all out
total.
University students, Callum Young and Jackman shared
seven wickets as the visitors went from 8-3 and then 23-6 to 80 all out.
Young returned figures of
4-9 off eight, while Jackman took 3-18 off seven. Richard Green completed the
rout with 2-14.
March 2nd Xl v Wimblington
Sunday, July 3, 2011
The 2nd Xl made it three wins in three weeks thanks to an
innings of 64 from David Haslegrave, in the bottom of the table clash in the
Fenland Trophy at Wimblington on Sunday.
Haslegrave, who 12 'fours' and
a 'six', added 111 runs for
the second wicket with Jake Beart (44) in the 253-8 declared total.
James Beresford (32), David Russell (30) and
Toby Nulty (26) also made useful contributions.
Wimblington
replied with 161-5 against some tight bowling from Matt Hubbard, in the 92-run
victory. The seam bowler took 1-8 off eight overs.
March 2nd Xl v Great Shelford
Saturday, July
9, 2011
A stunning undefeated 129 from Rob Moden set the 2nd Xl up for a
36-run victory over fellow promoted Great Shelford at The Avenue
in CCA Senior League Division 1.
The right-handed opener shared in a magnificent third wicket
stand of 155 with skipper John Wallis, who hit a season best 59
in the total of 238-4.
Put into
bat on an uncovered wicket due to the following day's county
game, Moden scorched 18 boundaries including two 'sixes'. He was
dropped in the covers on 25, but went on to make his best ever
score for the second team.
Wallis
came in at No4 with the total on 41-2 and returned to form with
an innings that contained seven boundaries.
Callum Young also produced his best
performance of the summer - taking top figures of 5-46. The
young seam bowler was always a threat to the side who beat March
so heavily in May.
And with
veteran left-arm spinner
Brian Tombs rolling back the years with a 2-24 spell - his first
bowl for two years - the visitors were restricted to 202-8.
March 2nd Xl v Leverington
Sunday, July
17, 2011
The
2nd Xl made it four straight wins thanks to an unbeaten seventh wicket stand of
51 between James Beresford (32no) and David Russell (21no), as they overpowered Leverington by four wickets in a friendly fixture at The Avenue.
The visitors were restricted
to 134-5 in their 40 overs, with the wickets being
shared by youngsters Toby Nulty, Ashley Payne and third team skipper Matt
Hubbard, who all took one wicket, while 15-year-old debutant, Jacob Brown picked
up two wickets.
Leverington came back strongly with six wickets
of their own after the
March openers of Jake Beart (16) and Nathan Foad (19) had put on 36.
At 81-6 things did not look
promising for March, but the hard-hitting
Beresford struck two 'sixes' and three 'fours'
to lead the home side to victory.
March 2nd Xl v Horseheath
Saturday, July
23, 2011
Elder statesman
Stuart Arnold almost cried off with a bad back
on the morning of the match, but a five wicket
haul was just what the doctor ordered as the 2nd
Xl beat bottom club Horseheath by five wickets
in CCA Senior League Division 1.
The home side
amazingly decided to bat first on a damp track
and were shot out by Arnold, who conceded just
the single from his eight overs. His impressive
figures were: 8-7-1-5. Richard Green took three
wickets and James Beresford two in the 47 all
out rout - Horseheath having been 31-1 at one
stage.
The visitors had a
huge scare early on as three of their top four
were back in the pavilion with just five runs to
their name. Fortunately, in-form
batsman/wicketkeeper David Hodson hit an
unbeaten 25 in the winning total of 48-5.
Hodson
cracked three boundaries and found support in
Dan Martell, who made double figures, as the 2nd
Xl maintain their third spot in the league.
March 2nd Xl v Chatteris
Sunday, July
24, 2011
A five wicket haul
from Callum Young, that included a hat-trick, put the skids under
current Fenland Trophy champions and undefeated league leaders
Chatteris at The Avenue, as the Sunday 2nd Xl racked up their fifth
successive victory.
The talented
seamer took his three consecutive wickets with the last ball of his
second over and the first two deliveries of his third, as March
bowled the visitors out for 96 in the nine wicket win. Sam Mason and
Matt Hubbard both picked up a brace of wickets.
In reply the home
side lost the wicket of Nathan Foad for 34, with Jake Beart
continuing his fine season with an unbeaten 42.
Foad struck four boundaries and
Beart hit six 'fours' and one 'six' as Chatteris juggled their teams
around on the day due to a CCA Junior Cup semi-final away to
Bottisham-Lode.
