Chris Ringham's second
six wicket haul in three weeks helped the 1st Xl to a comfortable six
wicket win away to bogey side Khalsa on Saturday, as they continue to
lead the way in the Tucker League.
In previous seasons
March have come unstuck on the Peterborough ground but the skipper's
6-59 haul, together with Matt Wilcox's 3-36, sent the home side tumbling
to 110 all out.
The Aussie made the initial breakthrough with two
wickets inside his first six overs - which was just as well with Ringham
struggling for wickets and leaking runs.
But just as he was about to bring himself off the
skipper clicked into gear, taking six wickets with his left-arm swing in
his next half-dozen overs.
Big-hitting Carl
Chapman then produced some of the old family magic as dad Gary watch him
crash 65 in the 111-4 reply. He smacked 10 boundaries, including five
'sixes' during his top-score of the campaign.
Earlier, Wilcox had
weighed in with 25 before falling to Cambs Over 50s spinner Jaspal Singh
and Shardul Brahmbhatt finished on 21 not out.
March 1st Xl v Medbourne
Sunday, July 3, 2011
Batting sensation David Hodson quickly got over the
disappointment of missing out on his maiden half-century of the previous week by
storming to a career best 117 not out in the 1st Xl's 130-run Rutland League
Division 1 win over Medbourne, at The Avenue on Sunday.
The teenage
wicketkeeper-batsman, who has been languishing at No8 in the 2nd Xl for most of
the season, cast off his 'makeshift' opener tag in fine style in the 251-6
total. He smashed 14 boundaries during a 96 ball stay at the crease.
Hodson shared in a 86-run opening stand with Matt
Wilcox, who was finally caught and bowled for 43. Shardul Brahmbhatt
weighed in with a typically robust 33, with Tommy Howgego chipping in
with 30, before a flurry of wickets in the final three overs.
Wickets from vice-skipper
Stuart Mills
(3-36) and a brace apiece from Brahmbhatt and Josh Jackman saw the visitors shot
out for 121.
Mills bowled both openers on his way to
3-36, with Jackman impressing with his
2-11. Off-spinner Brahmbhatt took his wickets total for the season to
28, following his 2-31 return.
March 1st Xl v Ickwell
Saturday, July 9, 2011
A barnstorming 7-29 from
Aussie Matt Wilcox - his best figures on English soil - helped the 1st Xl
beat new boys Ickwell by five wickets away from home, to open up an impressive
27-point gap at the top of the Tucker League.
Winning the all important toss
on Saturday, March snared both openers inside the first two overs - Wilcox
giving young wicketkeeper David Hodson the first of three catches and skipper
Chris Ringham taking the first of his two wickets.
After his initial burst, Wilcox had to wait until
his seventh over for his second and third wickets. He then bagged
two more two overs later and another double wicket over from his 12th.
Ringham finished with 2-33 as Ickwell were dismissed for
just 82 in only 26.1 overs.
But the visitors also found it
hard going - losing Shardul Brahambhatt second ball of the innings, closely
followed by the free-scoring Hodson. It took a knock of 40 from the in-form Carl
Chapman to rescue the situation in the 84-5 winning reply.
Chapman continued his big-hitting from his previous
week's 65, with eight boundary shots - two of which sailed over the
ropes.
However, Wilcox, coming in at No5, suffered his
first 'duck' of the season and only his second since joining the club at
the start of the 2010 season.
March 1st Xl v Medbourne
Sunday, July 17, 2011
A 10-man 1st Xl blitzed bottom club Medbourne for the second time within a fortnight, with Matt Wilcox sensationally
claiming his best figures for the club with an 8-27 spell in Sunday's 117-run
Rutland League Division 1 victory.
The Aussie, who the previous
Saturday took 7-29 at Ickwell, ran through the home batting as they were
dismissed for 82 - Callum Young bagging two of the top order batsmen.
The big haul of wickets now takes Wilcox to 60
victims for the season at a cost of just 12.13. Add this to the 1151
runs he has scored at an average of 52.32 and it's been quite a summer
for the all-rounder.
He made 25 at the top of the order after fellow
opener David Hodson failed to score against a side who he made his
maiden century against.
But the star turn with the bat was
James Hilliard, who cracked a superb 79
runs - a personal best milestone for him at first team level. He came in
at No4 and smashed a dozen boundaries before being caught.
Hilliard's innings
helped March to a respectable total of 199 all out.
March 1st Xl v Sawston
Saturday,
July 23, 2011
Stuart Mills' best
Tucker League performance in two years clinched the all important 25
points at The Avenue on Saturday when the 1st Xl pipped bogey side
Sawston by 28 runs.
The right-arm seamer,
who has had little opportunity with the Ringham-Wilcox opening combo
hogging the headlines this season, took his chance well with a
5-29 spell which saw the visitors let slip their 106-5 advantage to 138
all out.
The Sunday vice-skipper teamed up with Callum Young
to snatch the final seven wickets in a match-changing 16 over spell.
Young finished with 2-21, with Chris Ringham picking up 2-31.
Earlier, the league
leaders looked to be coasting at 66 without loss before the eventual
fall of Tommy Howgego for 34.
The young left-hander, promoted back to opening,
struck five boundaries in his knock. Matt
Wilcox went on to complete a solid 58 with an equal amount of boundaries
but finally fell to the left-arm seam of Adam Pledger, who ripped
through the tail for a five wicket haul.
Only James Harradine
showing great determination for his 33 not out. Unfortunately, the last
five batsmen could only muster 14 runs between them in a below par 166
total.
